How long does it take to get an LEI CodeLegal Entity Identifier (LEI) issuing timeframes by countryIt usually takes between 5 minutes to a couple of hours to obtain an LEI number. LEI issuing timeframes vary depending on the jurisdiction and local privacy laws. It should never take longer than 24-48 hours to obtain a new LEI, and most LEI renewals can be done in a matter of minutes.
In countries with open registries the LEI can be issued in seconds, however in other countries the data must be confirmed at the company registry which can take a day for a response. |
LEI Registration Timeframe
LEI issuance timeframes vary on a country by country basis. Countries with open registries such as Ireland, the UK and Luxembourg can issue LEI in seconds, however countries such as the BVI, Cayman Islands or with private registries can take between 24 - 48 hours. Entity type also plays a factor in how long it takes to get an LEI code.

Legal Entity Identifier registration is a relatively quick and simple process. When an LEI application is submitted, the data submitted is validated by our verification team for quality control purposes as our aim is to provide the LEI index with the highest quality data. In order to verify an entity, data is used from the local companies registry. For example, if a company in the UK applies for an LEI the company name, address, signing authority and registration I.D is cross matched with the Companies House.
In the UK, most EU countries and the United States we have instant access to this data from the registries. Automation means we can have an LEI validated in a few minutes. However, in some countries such as the BVI or Cayman Islands the local registry needs to be contacted so they can confirm the data is accurate. This can take up to a few hours. In order to streamline the process, we may request basic validation documents such as a Certificate of Incumbency or a Trade License. You can find a list of documents that may be requested for LEI applications here.
If you require an LEI in a hurry, you can select 'Fast-Track' at checkout and our support team will prioritise your application.
